About Me

Welcome,

My name is Faith and I'm a graduate with a Bachelor's of Science in Journalism from Kent State University.

Writing has been a love of mine since I was old enough to hold a pencil, and I've followed that passion throughout my academic career.

Through my experience at Kent State and internship with Ohio News Connection, I've gained the necessary experience that makes a well-rounded journalist.

I excel in long-form writing, fulfilling assignments on tight deadlines and creativity.

I'm happy to share my work with you.

Business major sells himself as drag performer

Common hobbies for college students can include writing, exercising, painting or even crocheting.

However, for sophomore general business major Loren, referred to by first name only for privacy, hobbies include performing as a drag king for crowds under the stage name Himbo.

Himbo was bitten by the drag bug in May of last year after performing in a fundraiser show, Suicide is a Drag. While that was his first performance, d

Former club gets resURGEnce

Kent State students are breathing new life into an old club.

Unite for Reproductive and Gender Equity is a student-led organization that focuses on empowering young adults to get educated on social issues and mobilize their communities.

Previously, URGE was active at Kent State until meetings of the club stopped in January of 2019. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the club lost momentum entirely.

Sophomore communication studies major Riley Hudson first learned about URGE from her boss and Wome

Beyond the curtains of Kent State’s Theater Department

In the center of the stage, assistant stage manager Austin Scott is on his hands and knees playing a gecko.

He’s out there for a while, circling an actor, repeating her lines after her. While some roles in this show have understudies, this one doesn’t. Leaving Scott to fill in when the original actor can’t make it to rehearsals.

Once the scene wraps and they move onto the next, Scott returns to the back of the stage, sweat percolating on his forehead. He gives a sharp look to another assistant

OPINION: Beauty and the beasts of the dance floor

I don’t go out too often, but when I do, I think, “Why don’t I do this more?”

Sure, the bar is crowded and there seems to be a twenty degree temperature difference from outside and I can feel my shoes sticking to the floor. But it’s the kind of night where the sky is clear and the DJ is playing songs everyone knows the words to. It’s the kind of night where you forget your upcoming assignments and unclear future.

The kind of night you don’t want to end.

I raise my arms up in cue with the lyri

OPINION: The pitfalls of ‘bimbo feminism’

Feminist movements have gone through many iterations, and philosophers have been at odds with each other since its beginning.

It’s hard to define equality for all when equality doesn’t look the same for everyone.

For that reason, feminism has birthed sub-movements of its own. From Black feminism, which focuses on the intersectionality of gender and race to ecofeminism, which argues the oppression of women is linked to the degradation of the environment, groups have created their own categories

While Christina Ray was incarcerated, she experienced the effects of limited feminine hygiene products firsthand.

"When I was incarcerated at Franklin County Jail, literally every morning they would throw in a supply bag and we'd have, like, six rolls of toilet paper and six giant, disgusting pads," Ray said. "And then the women would fight and divvy out everything an

Ohio's Issue 1 Ignites Impassioned Arguments on Both Sides

By Faith Fistler reporting for the Kent State-Ohio News Connection Collaboration.

Since 1912, Ohioans have been able to change the state constitution with just over 50 percent of the vote. Passage of Issue 1 on the ballot Aug. 8 would increase the threshold to 60 percent.

Supporters of Issue 1 think Ohio's constitution will be protected from out-of-state special interests. While opponents worry that Issue 1 will take away citizen-driven ballot initiatives.

During his freshman year at Kent State University, Nick Ditz found himself standing alone during an icebreaker activity in a classroom full of students.

“One of the student teachers came to talk to me and it ended up going into a political discussion,” Ditz said.

A senior digital production major, Ditz self-identifies as a modern-age conservative on a liberal-lean

The first time Tyana Barton was singled out because of her hair was when she was told to straighten it before a dance recital.

"That was like the first time in maybe 10 years I've ever had to straighten my hair. So I was like, distraught about that," Barton said. "And everybody was just like, 'it's not that serious'. And I'm like, 'it is, though. It is.'"
